I love the size of the plane and the reasons we used it in World War II. Bombing missions were its main purpose and they targeted German facilities in Europe. It was really only made for about 10 years. Four years prior to WWII to the end of WWII.
The plane had 4 engines and had about 6k pounds of bombs loaded on it. The Memphis was a B-17 and it accomplished 25 bombing raids on European targets. Weighing at around 36k pounds without its load and a span of almost 104 feet it is by far my favorite airplane the Americans used in any conflict in the previous 100 years.
Find 'em, See 'em, Fly,'em! And have a great flight!
